SUBTLE SOUND
This project began as an exploration of how sound could be used in interactive narratives and live role-playing. My work in this area has lead to a greater understanding of possible design opportunities using sound transmission and reception.
Experiment 1: Agent Alpha
Alternate-reality narrative game run on the iPod. I was trying to test the limitations of sound in delivering instructions for navigating physical space.
Experiment 2: FM Hack
Tinkering with simple technology as a platform for sound interactions. By manipulating a pocket fm radio I created a device that allows for the blending of FM radio and ipod music. The purpose of this technology is to allow sound interactions to occur as people go about their daily routine. With this, I hoped to create sound interactions that were subtle and spontaneous.
Experiment 3: Fan
A user testing experiment that tested at what point people recognize subtle sound as it is synchronized to tangible objects.
Experiment 4: Sound Vista
A visualization of how sound could be used to change distance and make the unheard, hearable.
Experiment 5: The Weed
User testing that observes the way people react to hearing the unheard through barriers.
