EINSTEIN'S DREAM SET

Inspiration for this space came from a chapter in the book by Alan Lightman. On April 24,1905, Einstein had a dream that involves two types of time: human time and mechanical time. Mechanical time is rigid, regimented and unstoppable. Human time follows the whims of human nature. In mechanical time, we tell ourselves to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner by the clock. In human time, we tell ourselves to eat when we feel hungry. I created two sets to depict these concepts. In one set, the light is harsh and raked. Gears and conveyer belts compose the way in which one moves through the space. In the other set, there is a winding path with shade and natural illumination. I particularly wanted to create contrast in every element between these two sets so that the essence of Einstein's dream could be expressed in light and form.
