BUS RIDE
While on my daily commute, I noticed both the complexity and simplicity of the systems and devices used to move passengers from one place to another. My bus had a particularly interesting bus fare receptacle. This project uses time lapse video to reveal the relationship of these objects and how they interact with each other within the system of public transit.
ASSIGNMENT: Communicate the words "object" and "system" using only motion as a medium.
MAKING: Managing two video cameras simultaneously on a moving bus was a juggling act and it elicited several odd stares from my fellow commuters. I shot the project completely in one morning commute and edited it to show each perspective simultaneously.
MEANING: There is a rhythmic complexity to the way systems work that can sometimes only be revealed by looking at multiple perspectives simultaneously.
However, within these systems the objects often perform the most simple and mundane tasks and must do so with efficiency. This relationship of object to system is a part of everything. How can this perspective inform the designer when asked to design an object or system?
